Anyone who drove in the 60s and 70s remembers the maintenance we used to do on cars: we had to clean spark plugs, gap the points, check the oil at every fill up, and remember to adjust the automatic choke! A friend of mine remembers guys bragging their car had 50k miles on it and they still hadn’t removed the heads!
Today’s cars are virtually maintenance free--and it’s a good thing, because people don’t seem to be as mechanically inclined as they used to be. Computers make everything function better, which means we aren’t repairing our machines the way--or as often--as we used to.
The same technological shift has happened in our industry. Brush scrubbers used to require a master operator-a talented mechanic who could make the process hum because he had experience and knowledge to know how to make precision adjustments. This still happens today, but as technology advanced and shop classes left our schools, machines became more automated.
Remember the days when it took 2 men and 8 hours to change out a brush on a BM scrubber machine? Today it takes less than 15 minutes! I know--it sounds crazy if you’ve never seen it in action.
If you’re still working on a classic machine: good for you! Why fix what’s not broke? But if you haven’t seen the “BMWs of our business,” take a peek at our video. It’s amazing to see, really. (WARNING: turn down the music if you’re at work!)

Tesla is talking about a car of the future that will drive you to your location on autopilot! You just punch in an address and trust the machine to take you to the destination. WE SAY BRING IT! We want to see that--and we also want to see how new technology will continue to improve our industry.
Faster lines. More intensive cleaning. Less Maintenance. Fully automated. Here’s to change (especially if it means more money & less maintenance!)
