Chemical Resistance
Filaments are resistant to a wide range of solvents and chemical solutions. Hydrocarbons and solvents have no effect on them. Aqueous solutions of most chemicals, including alkalies such as lye, have no effect other than temporary effect of the water itself on the stiffness of the filament. Some acids will attack nylon, but weak solutions act very slowly and filaments may have acceptable operating life.

Brush Filament Selection
It is critical to match scrubber brush fill materials and construction to your system. The following items must be considered in fill material selection:
  • Solution alkalinity
  • Solution acidity
  • Solution temperatures
  • Solution flow rates
  • Strip line speed versus brush speed
  • Solution recirculation rates
  • Available filtration equipment or coalescing equipment
  • Header spray nozzles, location, and pattern
  • Contaminant concentrations (mg./ft.) on incoming strip
  • Types of contaminants
  • Diameter of brushes
Filaments are selected based on their:
  • Tensile elongation (%)
  • Tensile strength (PSI)
  • Tensile stiffness modulus (PSI)
  • Water absorption (%)
  • Softening point (Degree F)
  • Abrasion resistance
  • Flex Life
  • Bend recovery
  • Resistance to taking a set
  • Solvent Resistance
  • Flicking action
  • Retention of stiffness in water
